The Making of Walt Disney’s “The Great Locomotive Chase”
- This event has passed.
July 5 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Join the Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum as they hold this special event that takes a deep look at the Disney family and the connection to trains and railroading with Disney historian Michael Campbell. The story of the Civil War’s Andrews’ Raid, a military raid that occurred in 1862, is told in the 1955 Disney film, “The Great Locomotive Chase.” Disney Historian Michael Campbell will share his unique knowledge of the making of this motion picture. He’ll discuss the history of the raid and share some behind-the-scenes stories and images from the filming. Finally, he’ll explore the key roles that historic steam engines played in this film, including the NSRM’s own Inyo locomotive.
The ticket includes a ride behind the 1875 Inyo, which played the “Texas,” locomotive in the movie.
In addition, a temporary exhibit featuring items from Mr. Campbell’s personal collection of railroading and Disney memorabilia will be on display at the museum. The exhibit will open to the public late June and be on view until July 29, 2024.
$75 (include a pass to Saturdays’ event)
